Not Every ACL Tear Needs Surgery

Dr Cross and his team developed the Cross Brace Protocol, a systematic bracing regime for specific high-grade anterior cruciate ligament tears. It uses a hinged lockable brace and gradual ROM increases to help the ends of the ACL stitch back together.

Working closely with the Dr Tom Cross and the broader team since 2019, we have redeveloped the SecuTec Genu - A hinged brace that is thoroughly tried, tested, and proven for the protocol. So far, hundreds of patients have experienced remarkable outcomes. We are proud to be the official research partner of the University of Melbourne for the randomised controlled trial (RCT) on the Cross Brace Protocol. Now established as a clinical program, we are excited about the ongoing research. Confidently prescribe a tried, trusted and tested brace to help drive better patient outcomes.

The Benefits of The CBP and our Modified SecuTec Genu

Our Partnership with Dr Cross’s Team

Over the years, the CBP has evolved to emphasise a more personalised, cost-effective solution that integrates new schools of thought on ACL healing. Emerging research and ongoing positive patient outcomes has driven this progress, pushing the protocol further into the clinical space.
With Bauerfeind’s ongoing work across the Cross Protocol’s associated research and clinician team, the protocol continues to expand, providing patients with tailored care that enhances recovery, mobility, comfort, and importantly further options to treat their ACL injury.

Bauerfeind partners with Dr Cross, and a committee of orthopaedic surgeons, and physiotherapists. After months of research and testing, the committee selects the SecuTec Genu from 16 ROM braces across the industry as the most accurate, reliable and suitable brace. We begin to develop custom limitation blocks so the SecuTec Genu meets CBP needs.

100 patients are braced in a study utilising the modified SecuTec Genu Brace. The majority of patients undertaking the CBP adopt the SecuTec Genu. It becomes the preferred option amongst practitioners and patients.

A study of 80 patients shows signs of ligament healing at the 3-month MRI scan. Results are published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

Bauerfeind becomes an official research partner of the University of Melbourne, collaborating with Dr Stephanie Filbray and her team for an upcoming randomised controlled trial of the CBP.

Bauerfeind in research partnership with the University of Melbourne trains the key hub physiotherapy clinics across Australia for the imminent launch of the RCT study.

Unique Frame Built For Comfort

The SecuTec Genu Frame is composed of lightweight aluminium that is highly adaptable to the patient’s natural joint structure. The brace’s construction allows for an industry leading secure and comfortable fit that minimises brace migration and maximises joint stability.

Innovative Donning System

Thanks to a posterior buckle system, the brace can be donned and doffed without extending the knee. This is particularly crucial in the first 4 weeks of the protocol when the knee has to remain at 90 degrees.

Accurate Angle Manipulation

We’ve developed a specialised set of custom limitation blocks to restrict ROM at 60, 75, and 90 degrees in conjunction with the SecuTec’s standard blocks. These extra restrictions allow for maximum accuracy when going through each protocol stage.

Ergonomic Build For Compliance

The SecuTec Genu Knee Brace is designed for comfort and compliance. It has breathable microfibre padding, anatomic stays, and a sleek, lightweight design.
